Springfield, IL - The Chicago Latino Theater Alliance (CLATA) recently traveled to Springfield, IL to participate in the Arts Alliance Illinois One State Conference and advocate for state funding for arts and culture in Illinois.
The Arts Alliance Illinois One State Conference brought together artists, arts administrators, and advocates from across the state to discuss the role of the arts in communities, share best practices, and advocate for increased support for the arts. Arts organizations and leaders highlighted the importance of the arts in creating vibrant communities, supporting local economies, and providing opportunities for diverse voices to be heard.
CLATA and other arts organizations are calling on the state to increase funding for the Illinois Arts Council to $30 million. At the moment Illinois spends $.85 per resident and ranks 25th in the nation. This investment would help to support arts organizations across the state, including CLATA, which provides critical resources to Latino theater artists and audiences in Chicago.
CLATA has been a leading voice for Latino culture and the arts in Chicago and beyond. The organization's mission is to provide a platform for Latino artists and to promote the rich cultural heritage of Latin America through theater, dance, music, and other art forms.
